Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Crossover Announced

From ComicBook.com

image.jpg

DC Comics and IDW Publishing are teaming up for a six-issue miniseries kicking off in November starring two of their biggest superhero properties: Batman and the Heroes in a Half Shell. Sure, he's fought the crocodile monster living in the sewers and mutated Man-Bats, but can he team up with the Turtles from underground, too?

In the simply titled Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, jointly published by the two companies, the TMNT and their villain Shredder get transported to an alternate universe by General Krang. Here, in Gotham City, they meet Batman and clash with a series of his famous Rogue's Gallery while attempting to find their way home. James Tynion IV will write the series, with Freddie E. Williams II on art. TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman (and others) will provide variant covers.

This is probably the closest fans will get to a "Batman/Daredevil" crossover that was teased to no fruition a few years ago at various conventions. The TMNT originally started out as a parody of Daredevil, with their origin initially stemming from the same chemical that burned a young hero's eyes, then pouring into the sewer. Where Daredevil fought the ninja clan known as the Hand, the Turtles fought the Foot clan. Daredevil was trained by Stick, the Turtles trained by Splinter.

Tynion says that the book is "a fanboy dream come true," and loves looking at "the world of Batman through new eyes" in a press release. Stay tuned for more on this crossover as it approaches its November 2015 release.

Marshawn Lynch Will Play a Villain in 'Call of Duty: Black Ops III'

From BleacherReport.com

image.jpg

In news so awesome that it will literally melt your brain, bring the gooey contents to a rolling boil and then throw the steaming grey matter back in your thoroughly rocked face, Marshawn Lynch will be starring in the next Call of Duty video game.

ESPN's Sam Alipour published a story Tuesday afternoon detailing Lynch's recent trip to the Activision Motion Capture Studio in Los Angeles, where his likeness and movements were recorded for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the latest installment in the COD franchise.

image.jpg

This isn't a special-edition, downloadable content stunt either. Alipour writes that Lynch's character is going to be in the campaign:

In the year 2065, cybernetic advancements give rise to augmented human soldiers, a new breed of badass charged with preserving our way of life. Their mission leads them to a seedy bar in Singapore, where they encounter an underworld boss and his elite squad of mercenaries. Among them is a 5-foot-11, 215-pound battering ram of a man who's exactly like the world's most ferocious running back circa 2015: the Seahawks' Marshawn Lynch.

Alipour's story follows the Seattle Seahawks running back and his session at the Motion Capture Studio.

Lynch, a huge COD fan and avid player, gets his picture taken by 16 cameras in the glow of 6,280 LED lights ("Is this healthy?"). He dons a motion capture suit and tells developers to make his character authentic ("He better have dreads, gold teeth and my distinctive walk"). He shoots fake guns and loves every moment of it ("I'm fittin' to join the Army!").

Jaden Smith Confirmed As Static Shock By Tyler James Williams

From ComicBook.com

image.jpg

During a recent interview, actor Tyler James Williams (The Walking Dead, Everybody Hates Chris) pointed out that "there aren't a lot of young, black superheroes." Two people in the background can be heard shouting to him "Static Shock" and "Spider-Man." Those suggestions elicit an interesting response from Williams.

"I don't know... What you're taking about," Williams says to Flicks And The City with a knowing smile. "But yeah no, it's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden."

The "Jaden" he refers to, is Will Smith's After Earth co-star and real-life son Jaden. Back in October, Smith was rumored for Static Shock, which Warner Bros. has been developing as a live-action digital series with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin.

Listen to his comments starting at the 1:05 mark in the video below.

Static Shock features the character Static, originally created in 1993 by Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington III, and John Paul Leon for Milestone Comics, the short-lived DC Comics imprint meant to increase representation of African-American creators and characters. Static, whose real name is Virgil Hawkins, possesses electricity-based powers.

Furious 7 Director James Wan On If He Would Like To Direct Dwayne Johnson In Shazam

From ComicBook.com

image.jpg

Furious 7 races into theaters this weekend. As members of the comics community, though, we're always thinking into the future. On Friday, we talked to James Wan in an exclusive interview and asked him if he would like to work with Furious 7 star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson again on his upcoming Shazam film, where he'll play Black Adam.

CB: I do hear whispers that you might be in talks for a DC or Warner Brothers movie. Is that true?

Wan: There's lots of talks about lots of things so who knows what is true.

CB: Would you want to direct Dwayne Johnson again in Shazam?

Wan: Well, put it this way: I freakin' love Dwayne. He's an awesome guy and I would love to work with him again in a heartbeat. I know Dwayne wants to find something for me and him to do again in the future.

-----

So, it's a possibility. Wan certainly sounds keen to the idea of working with Johnson again!

A new poster has been released for the zombie-drama Maggie, which features the film's stars Arnold Schwarzenegger (Twins) and Abigail Breslin (Zombieland).

Will that change once people see him in Maggie? He plays a father that is trying his best to protect his infected daughter (Breslin) during a zombie epidemic.

Maggie was directed by Henry Hobson, based on a screenplay by John Scott 3 (3?!). It also stars Joely Richardson, Laura Cayouette, and Dana Gourrier, check out the trailer below.

Furious 7 Opening Weekend Box Office Revised Up To $146.5 Million

From ComicBook.com

image.jpg

Yesterday, box office analyst believed Furious 7 had earned $143.6M at the North American box office, but that number came in short of what it actually pulled in.

Furious 7 grossed an astounding $146.5M at the domestic box office. Easter Sunday was stronger for the action-packed flick than expected. Analysts had predicted the film would pull in $30M on Sunday but instead it raked in a cool $32.9M.

Overall, Universal has to be super-pleased as the film shattered box office records left and right and put itself among the top ten in a lot of key categories. Furious 7 had the ninth best stateside opening weekend; 4th best global opening weekend and the best ever opening for a film in the month of April.

Not bad for a film that had to deal with one of its stars dying in the middle of production.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. OFFERS CLUE FOR TODAY'S "AVENGERS" ANNOUNCEMENT

From ComicBookResources.com

image.jpg

"Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. took to Twitter to tease a "big" "Avengers" announcement on tomorrow's episode of "Good Morning America" and offered a clue as to what that announcement might be with an ambiguous photo. Not to be one upped, the "Good Morning America" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live's" Twitter accounts provided a second and third clue for the announcement.

Each picture displays piece of a logo and a close up of an Avenger's costume, with one for Iron Man, Hawkeye and Captain America so far. The announcement could tackle a number of topics, from the other unannounced characters who will appear in the film to Julie Deply and Linda Cardellini's roles to an announce about "Captain America: Civil War," which just started filming.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens on May 1.

Figures Toy Company to release reproduction of Mego Batcave

From ComicBookResources.com

image.jpg

No, this isn’t a belated April Fools’ Day joke, Figures Toy Company plans to release reproductions of not only Mego’s Batcave playset but also Aquaman vs. The Great White Shark.

They were originally released in the early 1970s as part of Mego’s World’s Great Super Heroes line of 8-inch dolls (excuse me, action figures). While I can recall desperately wanting the Batcave for Christmas one year — my brother and I had several of the DC and Marvel characters* — I can’t remember the Aquaman/shark set. But, hey, it’s a shark. What kid wouldn’t want that?

The Batcave playset comes with a flashing battery-operated Basignal, Batpole, Batcomputer and secret entrance. As the box clearly states, however, “Doll Figures Not Included’ (True story: Mego repurposed the Batcave for its Planet of the Apes Village Playset). Aquaman vs. The Great White Shark includes, well, Aquaman and the shark.

No details about price or release date have been revealed, but both sets are expected to arrive later this year.

* Their gloves, which we lost with regularity (they simply refused to stay on), haunted our house for years, long after the dolls were gone.

Machete Kills Again... In Space To Begin Filming This Year

From ComicBook.com

image.jpg

Danny Trejo has starred in Robert Rodriguez's low-budget action-comedy films Machete (2010) and Machete Kills(2013). The two are working together once again on a third feature film in the series, Machete Kills Again... In Space.

"Robert and I are going to start to do Machete Kills in Space, so that's going to be awesome," Danny Trejo told Halloween Daily News. "We're going to be working on it this year."

A fake trailer for Machete Kills Again... In Space preceded Machete Kills and it featured Trejo wielding a machete that lights up like a lightsaber. Some had thought it wouldn't get made because Machete Kills underperformed at the box office. It only cost $20M to make, but it only grossed $15M at the box office.

Tom Hardy Signs Deal for 3 More 'Mad Max' Films!

From ComicBookResources.com

image.jpg

Tom Hardy has signed on for three “Mad Max” films following director George Miller’s “Fury Road.”

“Everything’s based on figures and how things are perceived,” he told Esquire. “Inevitably it’s a business.”

Addressing the mettle and tenacity of his character of Max, a role originated by Mel Gibson, Hardy said, “You always wonder, why doesn’t he just top himself? [He] has humanity within him still, despite the hopelessness of his environment. He has no home and he has no hope, but he’s reluctant to give in.”

“I’ve never been more excited and out of my comfort zone,” he continued, referring to the pressure of living up to the role. Despite that, he called the film “fucking unbelievable.”

“We were in the middle of nowhere,” Hardy said of the film location. “so far away from the studio system that [Warner Bros] can’t really see what’s going on, and just getting things to and from the set was a nightmare. We’d lose half a vehicle in sand and have to dig it out. It was just this unit in the middle of x-million square-kilometers of desert, and then this group of lunatics in leathers, like a really weird S&M party, or a Hell’s Angels convention. It was like Cirque du Soleil meets fucking Slipknot.”

“Luckily nobody died,” he concluded after describing the car accidents caused during filming, despite the set’s extensive safety precautions.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” opens May 15.

Stephen Amell Tweets About TMNT 2 Role

From ComicBookResources.com

image.jpg

Stephen Amell will soon play another masked vigilante from comic book lore, according to Variety. The outlet reported Tuesday afternoon that the "Arrow" star has been cast in 2016's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" as Casey Jones, a popular supporting character in nearly every incarnation of the franchise.

image.jpg
Paramount declined comment on Variety's report. It's said that he secured the role due to his chemistry with Megan Fox, who returns as April O'Neil in the forthcoming sequel. Will Arnett is also slated to return, as Vern Fenwick.

Casey Jones -- a hockey mask-wearing crime fighter armed with various sporting goods used as weapons -- first appeared in 1985's "Raphael" #1, by franchise co-creators Kevin Eastmanand Peter Laird. The character was played by Elias Koteas in the first and third "Turtles" films, and voices by Marvel Studios' Captain America, Chris Evans, in the 2007 animated feature.

Directed by franchise newcomer David Green,"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is scheduled for release on June 3, 2016. Its predecessor, the first live-action "Ninja Turtles" film in more than two decades, was released last summer and earned $485 million in worldwide box office.
