If you have been living under a rock for the past month you may have missed this HUGE announcement by Netflix:

Netflix Inc. has acquired exclusive U.S. rights to movies from Walt Disney Studios in a deal that catapults the Internet video-on-demand service into direct competition with pay TV giants such as HBO and Showtime.

The three-year agreement takes effect in 2016 and is a blow to the pay channel Starz, which currently has the rights to broadcast Disney movies, including its Pixar animated films and Marvel superhero pictures, about eight months after they are released in theaters.

Disney has also agreed to give Netflix nonexclusive streaming rights to more of its older titles — including "Dumbo," "Pocahontas" and "Alice in Wonderland" — starting immediately.

Netflix's chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, called the deal "a bold leap forward for Internet television."

"We are incredibly pleased and proud this iconic family brand is teaming with Netflix to make it happen," he said.

Being an active subscriber to Netflix for the past 5 years it's exciting to see the direction Netflix is taking. You better believe we are going to be snuggling up to so Disney and popcorn come September!

This Week From Redbox: Big Hero 6

The special bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.

This weekend I took the advice of one of our writers Lorne as well as millions of other viewers that said Big Hero 6 was a must see movie. I must say they weren't wrong and this was a really good movie that I regret not seeing it in theaters.  

Hiro develops a special bond with Baymax, a personal healthcare consultant his brother invented, after his brother passes away tragically. Hiro, Baymax and a group of friends look to get to the bottom of the mystery, who stole Hiro's invention. With different misdirections throughout the movie to make you ponder then know for certain who the bad guy is makes for a very entertaining movie. 

I wish I was smart enough to turn both myself and my friends into superheroes​... Oh well.

Back to the movie, Disney​ did an awesome job with creating a character that everyone loves both young and old. I found myself attached to Baymax, this was very evident by the end of the movie. There is a good moral dilemma tracing back to the death or Hiro's brother. Then of course a bit or a tear jerking moment followed by a happy ending. This recipe always makes for a great movie!

Highly recommend watching this movie and for a household of youngsters its pretty much a given that you need to watch this, if you haven't already. ​

BIG HERO 6 NOW 2014'S HIGHEST-GROSSING ANIMATED MOVIE

Disney's Big Hero 6 has earned over $620 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of 2014.

With $221 million of its total coming from the domestic box office, Big Hero 6 is Walt Disney Animation Studios' third biggest domestic release of all time. Additionally, its worldwide total has now surpassed Tangled, making it the studio's third biggest global release behind Frozen and The Lion King.

Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, Big Hero 6 is now the biggest animated release from Disney or Pixar in China, bringing in over $51 million since its release two weeks ago, and the second biggest in Japan with over $75 million. It's also the second biggest Disney or PIxar animated release in Korea and Russia, and the biggest animated release of all time in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Big Hero 6 hit theaters stateside on November 7, 2014, and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

"Tron 3" to Begin Filming This Fall

Director Joseph Kosinski isn’t ready to let Disney’s “Tron” franchise go just yet; according to local Vancouver blog VancityBuzz and later confirmed by Badass Digest, Kosinski will begin filming “Tron 3″ in Vancouver in the fall of this year.

VancityBuzz’s report also claims that Garrett Hedlund will also return to reprise the role of Sam Flynn, the son of Kevin Flynn. No word on whether original star Jeff Bridges, who played dual roles as both Flynn and Clu in “Legacy,” will return for the third installment.

Kosinski’s past credits include “Tron: Legacy” and “Oblivion.”

“Tron 3″ will begin filming October 5, 2015.
